Congratulations to Sr. Geraldine Conklin, OSU on celebrating her 60th Jubilee!
Sr. Geraldine Conklin, OSU celebrated 60 years of religious life as an Ursuline Sister of Tildonk on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Sister Geraldine’s 60th Jubilee Mass was held in St. Thomas More Church on the campus of St. John’s University. The presider was Rev. Patrick Griffin CM.
“In the presence of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk, my family, friends, and this faith community of St. John’s University, I, Sister Geraldine Conklin, renew my vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience,” said Sr. Geraldine. This began the Ursuline celebration of the 60th Jubilee for Sister Geraldine’s commitment to the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk.
As an educator, Sister Geraldine has devoted her life to the education of children. “I firmly believe that every child has a right to a great education regardless of the circumstances of their birth. I have spent the greater part of my ministerial years ensuring that the children of immigrant families understand the value and necessity of developing their minds, their value systems, and their faith,” said Sr. Geraldine. As an Ursuline, Sister Geraldine worked as a teacher and administrator teaching students, developing remedial and enrichment reading programs, mentoring and encouraging teachers, creating and conducting staff development programs and generally encouraging all educators to espouse the mantra that “All students, regardless of their culture, race, or economic circumstances, can become educated and productive members of society.” Sister Geraldine further commented, “I am so grateful to be part of a religious community that values education for its members, encourages all of us to move where the Spirit of God leads us, and continuously looks toward the future in order to create a world where God is known and loved.”
The Theme of the concelebrated Mass for Sr. Geraldine’s 60th Jubilee was: The poor are our responsibility and we must act to relieve their suffering. The music was provided by the Community Choir of St. John’s University. Dinner was at Donovan’s Grill — the food was delicious, the conversation engaging and the atmosphere joyful.
We also congratulate Sr. Barbara Gooding, OSU, who also celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline Sister of Tildonk this year, and Sr. Ursula Leibold, OSU, who celebrates 75 years as an Ursuline Sister of Tildonk this year.
