Sister Mary DeMontfort (Hannah Mary) Sullivan, OSU died December 8, 2010, at the St. Ursula Center Convent in Blue Point, NY. She was born February 2, 1933, and raised in South Ozone Park, NY. She is a graduate of Our Lady of Wisdom Academy in Ozone Park, NY. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from St. John’s University and a Master of Arts degree from St. Bonaventure University. She entered the congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk on September 8, 1954.
Sr. DeMonfort ministered as a teacher at St. Maurice School in Stamford, CT from 1957 to 1965.
She was then called to serve her community in the role of Formation Director for her congregation. She spent the next 10 years working with the community’s novices and postulants in their spiritual growth. She also spent several years as a member of the Congregation’s Provincial Council and served as Assistant Provincial from 1979-1982.
She also served as the Administrator of the St. Ursula Center in Blue Point, NY and was instrumental in the rebuilding of the convent after it was destroyed by a fire in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her mother Marguerite Kenny, her father Cornelius Reardon Sullivan, her sister Marguerite Sullivan and her brothers Cornelius Sullivan, Daniel Sullivan, Thomas Sullivan, and Michael Sullivan.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass was held December 13, 2010, followed by internment at the St. Ursula Center cemetery in Blue Point, NY.
