Sister Jean Redigan, OSU (Sr. Mary Gabrielle) 87, died September 5, 2017 at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, NY. She was born on August 9, 1930 in Bridgeport, CT. She entered the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk on September 8, 1949 and professed her final vows six years later.

Sister Jean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s of Arts degree in English from St. John’s University.

Sr. Jean started her ministry career as an elementary school teacher, serving at St. William the Abbot in Seaford, NY from 1954-1960; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ozone Park, NY from 1960-61 and 1964-1966.  She served her community as Assistant Mistress of Novices from 1961-1964 before becoming an elementary school principal.

She served as principal at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1966-1969 and St. William the Abbot, Seaford, 1969-1975.  She returned to serve her community again as Assistant Provincial from 1975-1978 then Provincial Superior from 1978-1988.

After her time in leadership, she served as the Director of Religious Education and Parish Minister at St. Mary of the Isle in Long Beach, NY from 1988-1990.  In 1990 she returned to her role as principal at Our Lady of Hope School in Middle Village, NY serving until her retirement in 2009.

She is survived by her nephew Michael Kilcoyne (Margo) and grandniece Caitlin.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on September 9th at St. Ursula Convent in Blue Point, NY followed by internment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Coram, NY.
