Sister Helen Chasse, OSU (Sr. Margaret Ann) 74, died peacefully on December 28, 2017 at her family home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 20, 1943 in Waterbury, CT. She entered the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk on September 15, 1961 and professed her final vows eight years later.

Sister Helen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Masters of Arts degree in French from St. John’s University, as well as a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in Chicago and a Certification in Spiritual Direction at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership.

Sr. Helen started her ministry career as an elementary school teacher, serving at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ozone Park, NY from 1966-1969 and Our Lady of Victory in West Haven, CT from 1969-1985.

In 1985, Sr. Helen started ministering in Spiritual Direction and Retreat Work at St. Paul’s Cursillo & Retreat Programs. In 1995 she founded the Tabor Retreat Center in Oceanside, where she served as director for over 23 years. As Director she provided programs addressing spiritual as well as physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret, and three sisters, Fran Tompkins, Lori Hoyt and her husband Phil and Linda Possidento and her husband Mark, and a brother Bill Chasse and his wife Emily, as well as many nieces and nephews and her religious sisters of the Ursuline community.

Masses were celebrated on January 3rd at St. Dominic Church in Southington, CT and on January 6th at St. Anthony’s in Oceanside, NY.
