Diocesan Co-vicars of Religious Sister Mary Walsh and Brother James McVeigh flank honorees Sister Joanne Callahan, Sister Mary Hughes, and Brother Jack Moylan.
On Sunday, April 10, 2011, the Diocese of Rockville Centre Office of Vicars for Religious honored Sr. Joanne Callahan “for enfleshing the charism of your congregation and enriching the faith of the people of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.” More than 100 sisters and brothers from throughout the diocese gathered at St. Anthony's High School for an evening of prayer and reflection. This annual gathering provides an opportunity to acknowledge men and women from religious communities who have served the church in extraordinary ways. In presenting the Founder’s Award to Sister Joanne, Brother James McVeigh, OSF, Vicar for Religious, said, “We honor you for your leadership role in Catholic education through the years and in particular as Superintendent of Schools. In your ministry and your life, Joanne, you witness the gospel by enfleshing the spirit of St. Angela Merici.”
